Ordering, Payment, and Shipping Terms
Information for All Orders
All orders require a telephone number. Order Processing and Shipping Day: Delivery times assume your order is received by 3:00 PM (Pacific Time) on a business day. Almost always, we are able to process and ship your order the next business day. At the most, your order will ship out 2 business days after we receive it. For instance, if you send us an order that we receive before 3:00 PM on Thursday, your order will ship on Friday. If we receive your order after 3:00 PM on Thursday, your order will ship the following Monday. A worldwide clock is available for your convenience at www.timeanddate.com.
Important notice: Unless you place your order on the phone, Canada Courier Federal Express or Canada UPS are the shipping methods that are required for orders over $299 as it can be tracked. If you place your order online and it is over $299, Canada Courier or Canada UPS are the only shipping methods available.
Customs Fees and GST
Customs fees and GST (Goods and Services Tax) are typically charged by the Canadian government and must be paid by you when your package arrives. We cannot determine what these fees will be. We recommend that you check with your local customs office or post office for details on how these charges are assessed and applied. You can also find information about GST and Customs fees by searching sites on the Internet such as the Canada Revenue Agency. Please note that if your order has reached your country of destination and it is returned to us as Unclaimed or Refused due to GST or customs fees imposed by your country, AFTER we have received your order back, we will refund the cost of the items minus any shipping fees to and from you.
Marking "Gift" on Your Order
Because of International agreements, we are unable to mark packages as "Gift" if it is sent to you. We can only mark "Gift" if the order is paid for by one person and is shipped to a different name at a different address than the purchaser. Regardless of how the package is wrapped or what shipping method is used, the amount of your purchase will show on the customs forms attached to your package as required by International agreements. All International orders are marked "Educational Materials."
International Orders, Special Ordering Information
In general, shipping orders internationally is easy if you keep the following things in mind. Payments made by Paypal, MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Diner's, JCB, Maestro, or Discover are best, and are the only acceptable method of payment if you are ordering online.
Important Note regarding UPS brokerage fees
If you have UPS clear your package through customs, they are happy to do this, however our customers report that they might charge a significant brokerage fee for this service in addition to the Canadian government's fees. If you choose UPS to Canada and want more information about UPS fees for customs clearance, call UPS at 1-800-782-7892 or visit their website at www.ups.com. - Slowest delivery time with estimated delivery time of 7 to 14 business days. Please note that Canadian customers have reported that orders shipped via Canadian Air Postal can take 7 to 10 business days longer than the estimated delivery time due to delays during customs clearing, so could be a total of 14 to 24 business days. Orders are almost always shipped the business day after we receive it, and are shipped from Portland, Oregon.
- For orders over $200 many of our customers prefer Canada Courier which is a lot faster than Canada Postal and while it is more expensive than Canada Postal, this shipping method ensures delivery of your order in 3 to 5 business days and is trackable and insured.
- We may choose to change your shipping to Courier Service. This will be done if delivery to a province has had significant delivery problems using Postal service, and especially if your order is over $200. These delivery problems include long delays and many lost packages. While Courier Service is more expensive, our switching you to Courier will make sure that you receive your order, and that it arrives in a timely manner as courier shipping is trackable and insured. While it is infrequent that we will choose to make such a shipping method change, we will attempt to notify you in advance of making such a change, charging your credit card, and shipping your order. Should we choose to change your shipping method to Canada Courier from Postal service without notifying you in advance, then you will be charged for Canada Postal shipping as indicated on your online order when you placed it.
- Service is fastest to major metropolitan areas and Western Canada, and slowest to remote, rural areas in Eastern Canada.
- Delivery is through the Canadian postal system. When the postal service receives your package, it will make the necessary delivery arrangements. The Postal System Shipping Company and LuminEssence cannot affect these arrangements once the package arrives in your country. Actual delivery times from your local post office varies widely. Delays in delivery are usually due to custom/import duties or to local postal guidelines. While these factors make it difficult for us to estimate when you will receive delivery of your order, most of our Canadian customers report receiving delivery of their order one to two weeks after placing it.
- Orders over $299: These orders need to be shipped by Canada UPS Ground or Canada Courier so that your shipment can be tracked. These services require a physical street address (no PO Boxes) as well as a telephone number.
- Fastest and more expensive. Estimated delivery time 3 to 5 business days after the business day on which we receive your order. Delivery is fastest to major metropolitan areas and western Canada, and slowest to remote, rural areas in eastern Canada. All orders are shipped from Portland, Oregon.
- Delays at customs, while rare for courier service, can add up to a week to delivery times.
- This service requires a physical street address (No P.O. Boxes), and requires a telephone number.
- Typically someone needs to sign for the package. In addition, if there is GST or other customs fees these need to be paid by you at the time of delivery.
- Orders over $1000: We will charge your credit card the actual shipping and insurance cost.
- Shipment is typically by Federal Express, but may be by other comparable carriers such as DHL.
- Faster than Canada Postal Service and our shipping cost to you is not much more, and for larger orders is actually less. Most deliveries are in 4 to 9 business days.

If you are not already on record with UPS Canada regarding who you want to use as your customs clearing agent, then call UPS at (800) 742-5877 to specify your preference. We understand that once you have registered this information by phone, UPS Canada will continue to use it for all future shipments.
